Kenmore is not a manufacturer. It is a Sears badge applied to appliances built by whoever won the contract for that model and year, which over the decades has meant Whirlpool, Frigidaire, Electrolux, LG, Samsung, GE and others.
That makes the first three digits of the model number the single most important thing on a Kenmore. 110 is Whirlpool, 795 is LG, 253 is Frigidaire, 592 is Samsung and so on. Those digits tell us the real manufacturer, which parts fit and which fault codes apply.
What tends to fail, in our experience

Who made my Kenmore?
Read the first three digits of the model number. 110 is Whirlpool, 795 is LG, 253 is Frigidaire, 592 is Samsung. Tell us that number and we will know what we are working on.
Can you still get Kenmore parts now that Sears has gone?
In most cases yes, because the parts were never really Kenmore parts. They are Whirlpool, LG or Frigidaire parts under a Sears number, and the original manufacturer still supplies them.
Is an older Kenmore worth repairing?
Often yes. The Whirlpool-built ones in particular are simple and well supported. The limiting factor is usually a discontinued control board, not the mechanical parts.
How much does the repair cost?
