About Maytag appliances
Maytag has been part of Whirlpool since 2006, and current Maytag appliances are built on Whirlpool platforms with heavier-duty components and a commercial-leaning design. The laundry line in particular is sold on durability, and the ten-year limited parts warranty on the drive motor and wash basket reflects that.
Because the platform is shared, Maytag diagnostics are Whirlpool diagnostics: the same F and E code pairs, the same service modes and largely the same parts. That is good news for availability and for first-visit repair rates.
What tends to fail, in our experience
- Drive belts and shifter assemblies on top-load washers
- Door lock assemblies on front-loaders
- Heating elements and thermal fuses on dryers
- Lid switches on older top-loaders, a very common no-spin cause
- Oven sensors on ranges, reported as F3 E0

Maytag has been a Whirlpool brand since 2006. Current machines share chassis, control boards and fault codes with their Whirlpool equivalents, which is why the codes below are the Whirlpool set and why parts availability is excellent.
Washers
| F8 E1 / LF | Long fill — taps, inlet screens or the water valve. |
| F9 E1 / Ld | Long drain. Usually the pump or a blocked drain hose. |
| F5 E2 / dL | Door will not lock. Latch or lock assembly. |
| Sud / F0 E5 | Suds lock, or a badly unbalanced load. |
| F7 E1 | Motor cannot reach speed — often a shifter or drive fault. |
Dryers
| F01 / F1 | Main control board. |
| AF | Restricted airflow. Vent or lint path, not the dryer. |
| PF | Power failure during the cycle. |
| L2 | Low or no line voltage — one leg of the 240V supply. |
Dishwashers
| F8 E4 | Overfill or float switch. |
| F7 E1 | Heater circuit not reaching temperature. |
| F6 E4 | Water inlet — valve or supply. |
| Clean light flashing | Stored fault. The flash count identifies it. |
Ranges & ovens
| F2 E0 | Stuck key on the touchpad. |
| F3 E0 | Oven temperature sensor open or shorted. |

Maytag repair — common questions
Is Maytag still made by Maytag?
Not since 2006. Whirlpool owns the brand and builds the appliances on Whirlpool platforms. That is a practical advantage: parts are easy to get and the diagnostics are well documented.
My Maytag washer fills but will not spin. What is it?
On older top-loaders it is most often the lid switch, which is an inexpensive part. On newer machines it is usually the shifter or the drive motor.
How much does the repair cost?
You get a firm quote after diagnosis and you approve it before any work starts. If we cannot fix the appliance, you do not pay.
