About Sub-Zero appliances
Sub-Zero builds refrigeration and nothing else, and it builds it to a standard that assumes a twenty-year service life. Its defining feature is dual refrigeration: two separate sealed systems, one for the fridge and one for the freezer, so that moist air and odours never move between compartments.
These are built-in units that sit flush with cabinetry, and they are designed to be serviced rather than replaced. A Sub-Zero that is twenty years old is usually worth repairing, which is rarely true of mass-market refrigeration.
What tends to fail, in our experience
- Condenser coils clogged with dust, by far the most common cause of poor cooling — these need vacuuming roughly every six months
- Evaporator fan motors in either sealed system
- Door gaskets hardening and losing their seal
- Defrost heaters and drain lines icing up
- Ice maker modules in the freezer drawer
Why our team is comfortable with Sub-Zero
Trained on the systems that matter
- Sealed-system and compressor work, so a fridge that is not cooling does not automatically become a replacement
- We read service modes and stored fault history, not just the code on the front panel
Parts, and first-visit repairs
- We carry the common Sub-Zero wear parts — pumps, locks, sensors, elements and belts — on the van
- That stock is why roughly 90% of our jobs finish on the first visit
- Anything we do not carry is ordered the same day from Lower Mainland distributors
- Every repair carries a 90-day parts and labour warranty
Why Sub-Zero is worth repairing
Sub-Zero designs for a long service life and supports parts for decades, so repair economics are completely different to mass-market refrigeration. A failed fan or gasket on a fifteen-year-old unit is a routine fix, not a reason to replace a built-in appliance that is integrated into cabinetry.
Sub-Zero repair — common questions
My Sub-Zero is not cooling properly. What is the first thing to check?
The condenser. Sub-Zero condensers need vacuuming about every six months and a clogged one is the most common cause of poor cooling we see. It is often the whole problem.
Is it worth repairing a twenty-year-old Sub-Zero?
Usually yes. These were built to be serviced, parts remain available, and the unit is integrated into your cabinetry, so replacing it is a renovation rather than a purchase.
One side is cold and the other is not. Is that normal?
It tells us something useful. Sub-Zero uses two separate sealed systems, so a fault in one compartment does not affect the other. It narrows the diagnosis considerably.
How much does the repair cost?
You get a firm quote after diagnosis and you approve it before any work starts. If we cannot fix the appliance, you do not pay.
